According to Yahoo! Sports, Ray Allen is taking his time in free agency because he is heavily weighing retirement as an option. Allen, who turns 39 on July 20, is the all-time leader in 3-pointers made.
All offseason, speculation has pointed to Allen following LeBron James wherever he went. With James signed on in Cleveland, rumors have been swirling that Allen is likely to join him. The Miami Heat are also interested in bringing Allen back to support Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.
Allen, a 10-time All-Star and two-time NBA Champion, said in May that he contemplated the idea of retiring. He stated, "Do I want to get to a point where you tell me 'Look, man, you ain't looking good out there' Do you want to get to that point and people start saying that about you?"
Even at his advanced age, Ray Allen has stayed productive, averaging 9.6 PPG and making 38 percent of his 3-point attempts last season. If he does decide to come back, any contender would be lucky to have him. As he's proven time and time again, Ray Allen is more than capable of making the big shots.
