DB's Jamar Summers and Anthony Watkins Officially Signed

Two defensive backs added to the roster

Two more players have sent in their Letters of Intent., including 3-star mid-year enrollee Jamar Summers. Anthony Watkins has been listed as an Athlete across his recruitment, but UConn announced his commitment this morning as a CB. He was recruited pretty late in the game given that UConn had only started contacting him once Diaco was aboard.

Jamar Summers Defensive Back

6' 0"   175 lbs. East Orange, NJ 3-star

Back in July, UConn beat out the likes of Syracuse and UMass to land the versatile Jamar Summers. After a year spent at Milford Academy, Summers projects to play cornerback at the next level. He snagged five interceptions during his prep school year, when he was lauded for his strong coverage and hitting skills.

Unlike his star prep school teammate Jordan Fuchs, Summers stayed committed to UConn during the turmoil of multiple head coaching changes. He's rated as a two-star prospect by Scout.com. While he may not make an immediate impact in the secondary, Summers could contribute on special teams, having returned a kickoff for a touchdown back in September.

Anthony Watkins

Athlete 6' 1"   185 lbs. Laurel, MD 2-star

Anthony Watkins, a wide receiver/cornerback, considered many high FCS offers before officially settling on UConn back on January 19. The Lawrenceville (N.J.) Prep attendee signed today, though it's believed his position will not be determined until spring practice. He received interest from Towson, Stony Brook, Delaware and Coastal Carolina.

At Lawrenceville Prep, Watkins averaged better than 100 receiving yards per game and collected a total of 12 touchdowns. In addition, he returned both kicks and punts, with longs of 90 and 85 yards respectively. He has committed along with teammate Sheridan Lawley, who plays defensive tackle.
