First Intermission Report: Huskies down 1-1 against No. 3 BU

The Terriers notched a power play goal, but the Huskies played well overall.

The Huskies got off to a quick start, getting on the power play early after a Boarding penalty on John MacLeod. They got seven shots off before BU had their first one. Jack Eichel was terrifying early on, sweeping through defenders for a quick early scoring opportunity made from nothing. A hooking call on Johnny Austin led to the first goal of the game at 7:28 in the first period when Ahti Oksanen tipped in a rebound off a Jack Eichel shot. Eichel was credited with the assist.

UConn's offensive execution looked crisp, but the BU goal understandably took some steam out of the attack. The resilient Huskies managed X shots after the Terriers' goal. The visitors had a particularly scary opportunity to double their lead about five minutes left, but Rob Nichols made a great save to clear the puck, one of X for the Huskies netminder on the period.

Trevor Gerling had a chance to tie it about with just over a minute left on a 3-on-2 opportunity, but his shot was saved by BU goalie Matt O'Connor. The Huskies were on the power play for the final minute of the period after an interference penalty, but they were unable to score. They will start the second period on the power play for 1:09.
