The Huskies opened up sloppily in the second. A mixture of bad clearances and bad puck luck, culminating in a Kunnas turnover to Vermont's Anthony Petryzzelli, who scored through the five-hole unassisted at 3:52. Vermont continued their assault throughout the opening of the third, with the UConn defense looking especially out of sync, whiffing on a couple clearances and almost costing themselves again around the five-minute mark. Thankfully, Nichols was unphased by the goal let up earlier and made the saves when needed.
UConn recaptured the crowd and the momentum after that and went on a string of good chances. It took exactly seven minutes for UConn to grab its bearings – they took a rip at the point by Poe that was then tipped by Naas to do so. The goal brought the crowd back alive and brought Brass Bonanza to their ears for the second time.
A relatively tame period, there were no penalties, though frustration was clearly mounting on a couple Catamount skaters, with a few instances of shoving after the whistle blew. The refs got the situations under control and the horn blew to end the second. At one point UVM led the shots by 5, but UConn brought that lead down to two late in the period.
UVM outshooting UConn overall 19-17. UConn leads faceoffs 26-17.
