UConn Men's Basketball ranked 17th in AP Poll

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

The AP released their Preseason Top 25 today, UConn fell a shade lower than they were in the coaches poll released earlier this month.

Remember this for the end of the season- people paid to write about sports, specifically college basketball, thought the following teams were better than UConn:

Villanova- ew

Virginia- not sure why everyone's so high on them this year

Wichita State- do we really have to go through this again?

Gonzaga- see above

VCU- come on

At first I thought the 15 range was about right for UConn, but then after taking a hard look at the field I think the Huskies really should be just outside the Top 10 somewhere near Texas and Virginia. I don't care all that much because it's the Preseason AP Poll, and the winner of this beautiful game is decided on the court, but unfortunately these things shape national perceptions in college basketball and can have lasting effects across a season. It would be nice to see a little more respect for a reigning national champion that isn't rebuilding, but reloading.
