60 more minutes and many more good-byes.
At long last, UConn's season finale has mercifully arrived. The Huskies, with a 2-9 record behind them, can somehow have a three-game winning streak ahead of them with a win today. To do so, they'll have to top a Memphis (3-8, 1-6 AAC) team that statistically finds itself in a very similar spot. However, last week, the Tigers fell in their home finale, 40-21 to Temple. UConn beat Temple on the road two weeks ago, 28-21.
Before the opening kick, thirteen Husky seniors will be honored pregame for their four, five or even six years of dedication to the program and imminent exit. Star linebacker Yawin Smallwood could very well join them within the month, should he forego his senior season and declare for the NFL Draft.
Even ignoring the giant hole left behind by the 11 departing starters from this group of 13, this UConn program will likely look a lot different. A new coaching staff, like new schemes, certainly new captains and a new team mission.
Since interim coach T.J. Weist took over, this group has been "all in", and they've committed themselves to going all in on more time to send their seniors off right. We'll see if they're up to the challenge and can end an otherwise miserable year on a higher note.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
