The Open Thread: No. 10 UConn vs. Stanford

9pm, XL Center- Hartford, CT, ESPN 2

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

The long wait is finally over and the Drive to Dallas resumes tonight with a late start as the Huskies are hosting Stanford at 9 on ESPN 2.

The Huskies haven't played meaningful basketball since December 2nd, with a light tune-up in between. Tonight's Stanford team is another in a long line of solid, if unspectacular, non-conference opponents we have faced across the season. Stanford comes into Hartford with a balance offensive attack, and a big man who could be a nightmare for our foul prone front court. American Conference play will begin on New Years Eve with a game at Houston, but we have one non-conference game against a frisky Harvard team before ever playing Cincinnati, Memphis and Louisville.

UConn is one of the best defensive teams in the country so it will be strength against strength tonight when Stanford has the ball. On the other end of the court, Stanford is very weak defensively so we should be able to see strong ball movement from the Huskies and have our way with a very generous Cardinal defense that gave up 88 points to Pittsburgh- yeah the same Pittsburgh that scored 43 points last night.
