Florida big man Amida Brimah is Kevin Ollie's first committed recruit

Amida Brimah, a big man from Florida, has committed to the Huskies.

Kevin Ollie has landed his first recruit as UConn's coach and it's a big man. Amida Brimah, a center out of Archbishop Carroll High School will be part of UConn's 2013 class and brings the one thing UConn needs above all else: size. Brimah is 6'11 and reportedly has a 7'6" wingspan, which he puts to good use in the video above. Oh, and tell me if this formula sounds familiar: he's an African immigrant who has only been playing the game for a few years but has developed rapidly. Sound like anyone you know?

Scout has Brimah as a three-star recruit, but the 16th-best center in the class. Rivals doesn't have a ranking for him, but it looks like his page there hasn't been updated in a while (they still have him at Pace, his high school from last year).

David Borges over at the Register reported that Karl Hobbs took in one of his games on January 3 and it was a good one: Brimah posted 18 points, 15 rebounds and 13 blocks, his fourth triple-double of the year.

Brimah will apparently be at tonight's game (he'll be the wicked tall guy behind the bench), so give him a shout if you're there.
