UMass-UConn to renew rivalry, now as FBS programs -
UMass has a new coaching staff, led by first-time head coach in Charley Molnar, who was the offensive coordinator under Brian Kelly at Cincinnati and Notre Dame. He brings in a new spread offense that will be run by redshirt freshman quarterback Mike Wegzyn.

UCONN FOOTBALL: Season opener against UMass rekindles old rivalry (with video, gameday capsule)- The Register Citizen
All eyes will be transfixed on UConn’s new starting quarterback, Chandler Whitmer. Whitmer, a transfer from Butler Community College, arrived in January and, buoyed by an impressive showing in the spring game, was named the starter the day before the start of fall camp.

This will be the 72nd meeting between the teams. UMass holds a 36-33-2 edge. UMass is the Mid-American Conference's newest member following its upgrade to FBS

The Huskies moved up to the Football Bowl Subdivision for the 2000 season and left UMass behind. Now, the Minutemen have joined UConn in college football’s top division, and the rivalry is back on for the moment.

"There’s no question that [Whitmer is] excited about it and he’s really, really committed to trying to be the best player he can be, and more importantly, being the best quarterback that he can be for our team," Pasqualoni said. "He’s gaining the respect of the team little by little. He’s got a big opportunity on Thursday night to really solidify his position here and show that he can be our quarterback."

UMass football: UConn Opens Football Season Thursday Vs. UMass -
UMass officials learned from UConn that an on-campus facility was important for operating the program and as a recruiting tool, so office space and a training venue are being constructed and will be ready in 2014. They also learned about widening a recruiting base, following Randy Edsall's approach of starting local and spreading year after year.

Stlouis leaves UConn again
Stlouis tweeted Tuesday that he was on his way back to his Florida home just days after completing preseason camp and two days before tonight's season opener against UMass. On Aug. 18, UConn coach Paul Pasqualoni announced that Stlouis had decided to transfer. A couple of days later, Stlouis was back on the practice field.
