The Big East should consider renaming the 'Rookie of the Week' award to 'Drummond of the Week'

Andre Drummond is good. You know this and I know this. The Big East does as well because today it named the big man Big East Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season. He certainly earned it, as he put up a combined 30 points, 24 rebounds and five blocks in wins over West Virginia and Notre Dame.

It's not going to be his last time winning the award either. He's put up a double-double in four of his last five games (the Seton Hall disaster being the lone exception) and he keeps getting better. I wasn't able to find just how many times the award has been given out this season, but it should about 10 so far, so Drummond is winning them at a good clip. The full release from the Big East, including the announcement of the Big East player of the week (Cincinnati's Dion Dixon) and the weekly honor roll is after the jump.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The BIG EAST Conference has named Cincinnati guard Dion Dixon and Connecticut center Andre Drummond the winners of the conference's weekly men's basketball honors for the week-ending Jan. 15.
Dixon was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after he scored a season-high 22 points in wins against No. 11/11 Georgetown (68-64) and Villanova (82-78), moving the Bearcats into second place in the BIG EAST standings. He scored six points and had two steals in the final two minutes of the win at Georgetown to give Cincinnati its second straight road win against a top-25 opponent. He scored 17 of his team-high 22 points against Villanova in the first half to keep the Bearcats within striking distance and scored four points in the last 2:10 to seal the win. Drummond earns BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this season after he averaged 15.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in two wins for Connecticut. He had 20 points with 11 rebounds and three blocks in a 64-57 win against West Virginia and had 10 points with 13 rebounds and two blocks in a 67-53 win at Notre Dame, snapping the Irish's 29-game homecourt winning streak. Drummond has registered a double-double in four of his last five games.
