UConn defeats Louisville 6-2, magic number down to 1

UConn defeated Louisville 6-2 last night on the strength of Matt Barnes' eight-inning, nine-strikeout performance. The win lowers the Huskies magic number to one over St. John's who beat Georgetown 7-3, so UConn only needs a single win (or a St. John's loss) in its last five Big East games to clinch the team's first outright Big East Title. West Virginia, who lost to Pitt 12-1 yesterday, can no longer catch the Huskies.

Barnes gave up six hits and became the third pitcher in UConn history to win 10 games. Babe Ruth George Springer went 2-4 for three RBIs and one run scored.

The Huskies and Cardinals will play a double-header today in Storrs starting at noon because Sunday's matchup was cancelled.
