Here we go, folks. It's NCAA tournament time. The selection committee's work was unveiled this evening and the UConn Huskies, a No. 3 seed, have a date with No. 14 Bucknell in the first round. You can check out the complete bracket here.
The Huskies are in the West regional, which has been kind to them before, launching them into the Final Four in 1999, 2004 and 2009. The 1 seed in the region? That would be Duke, which you may remember from previous NCAA tournament trips in 1990 (bad), 1991 (also bad), 1999 (Yes, UConn!), 2004 (Oh yeah!). The 2 seed? San Diego St. I confess that I do not know much about the Aztecs, but I am wary of playing them in California as UConn has a less than ideal track record in NCAA road games.
Of course, to even get to the Sweet 16 the Huskies need to not only get by Bucknell, but either Cincinnati or Missouri. I feel fine about a possible date with the Bearcats but Mizzou and their 40-minutes-of-hell style of play scare the hell out of me. More to come. Go Huskies.
