Big East Basketbal Power Rankings Week 15

Getty Images

Welcome back to the 2010-2011 Big East Power Rankings. The rules are simple, we've invited the SB Nation (or friend of SB Nation) blog for each team to cast a vote. They rank the teams from one to 16 and then we bring you the results. Enjoy.

Pittsburgh is good. We all know that. We're also pretty sure that West Virginia, Cincinnati and Marquette deserve to be 9th, 10th and 11th in the conference, respectively. Filling in the gap between those two is a bit trickier. As Anonymous Eagle succinctly noted on their ballot: "I have no f***ing idea."

Depending on the ballot, Georgetown is either second or eighth in the conference. UConn is either third or tenth. Villanova is second or seventh. Hell, even Syracuse got a second-place vote. You get the idea. It's all a giant slushy mess where Syracuse beats UConn, who beats Georgetown, who beats Syracuse. It's like a big game of rock-paper-scissors, but with seven options instead of three. At least the Big East Tournament will be fun.

I was really excited for this week's poll because after beating Providence and nearly shocking Villanova, DePaul seemed primed to grab the coveted No. 15 spot. Unfortunately for the Blue Demons, voters were split on if Providence or South Florida was worse, creating a gap just big enough for DePaul to slide through and stay in last.

Lots of options for the Homer of the Week today: Casual Hoya and The Nova Blog both think their respective teams are the second-best in the conference, which frankly seems wrong, but they're not the worst. I'll even let Blue Demons' Lair slide on a little DePaul boosting. Voodoo Five can't slide though. Putting Providence 16th for losing to DePaul is defensible. Putting South Florida 14th is not. Hater of the Week goes to Blue Demons' Lair who, among other odd choices, slotted Georgetown 8th. Sure, the Hoyas lost to UConn this week, but 8 is damn low for the Hoyas.
