Welcome back to the 2010-2011 Big East Power Rankings. The rules are simple, we've invited the SB Nation (or friend of SB Nation) blog for each team to cast a vote. They rank the teams from one to 16 and then we bring you the results. Enjoy.
Raise your hand if you thought Notre Dame would be the consensus No. 2 team in the Big East at the midpoint of February. Yeah, I didn't think they'd be there either. At this point it should be no surprise to see Pittsburgh sitting on top of the conference, but after that, like always, it's a huge jumble.
I feel like I'm writing a different version of this every week, but there is so so much parity here it's tough to predict what will happen on any given day. There is currently a 4-team tie for 5th in the conference, which is just insane.
On an individual level, Georgetown deserves a ton of credit for their rebound from a slow start to conference play -- I'm terrified of what they might do to UConn on Wednesday -- and Louisville has been impressive as well. The flip side of that is that Syracuse, Villanova and UConn -- three teams that once looked like they would contend with Pittsburgh for the conference title are all struggling and looking for answers. Plus, it doesn't help to throw in a team like St. John's who absolutely annihilated UConn on Wednesday but followed that up by barely edging out a free-falling Cincinnati team over the weekend.
Choosing the Hater of the Week this week was as easy as it has ever been. Just take a gander at On The Banks' ballot, where UConn is No. 2. Now, I can overvalue a win over Providence as much (and probably more than) the next guy, but c'mon, UConn is not better than Notre Dame, Georgetown or Louisville at this point. Sadly, once again all our voters were too honest for there to be a good Homer of the Week. Alas.
