The basketball practice facility has long been an issue at UConn. Despite its high-profile programs, the Huskies have fallen behind other schools in terms of a practice facility. The women have won seven national titles under coach Geno Auriemma and the men have three under coach Jim Calhoun. Both coaches are in the Basketball Hall of Fame. That's a lot of selling power to recruits but eventually the coaches go. The practice facility, like the Burton Family Football Complex and Mark R. Shenkman Training Center for football, is viewed as a selling point for years to come and a vital part of keeping the programs moving forward.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Cochran, who finished his high school career holding the state's all-time records for passing yards and completions, will graduate from Masuk High School in Monroe next week with a 3.94 grade point average. He will begin classes at UConn on Jan. 17 and be able to participate with the football team in spring practice.

"She's a pretty prideful kid and she wants to be really good," UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. "And when it wasn't happening for her, I think she got a little frustrated. I thought she did a pretty good job of getting herself to the spots where she wants the ball."

Peter Looney, an assistant softball coach at the University of Connecticut for 28 years from 1985 through 2010, passed away on Friday following a four-month battle with cancer. Looney, who worked with the Husky pitchers, was an instrumental part in eight NCAA tournament appearances for the Huskies, including one Women's College World Series berth in 1993, and seven BIG EAST Conference championships.
