It's a quick turnaround for the Huskies today, they stepped off the court after a rather pedestrian win over UNC-Asheville at about 9:30 last night, and now, less than 17 hours later, they'll be taking on the Knights of UCF.
The Knights have the first legitimate post-threat the Huskies will face this year in 6'8" junior Keith Clanton, who is leading the team in both scoring (19.3 ppg) and rebounding (10 rpg). He also hits 37.5% of his threes, so I'm sure guarding him will be a real treat.
UCF's other weapon shooting guard Marcus Jordan who is most famous for a shoe controversy (apparently his dad, Michael, is big in the sneaker world, who knew?). Jordan is more than just a famous name though, the junior is playing a ton (36 mpg) and scoring while he's at it (16.3 ppg).
UConn will surely turn to their own guards -- both Shabazz Napier and Jeremy Lamb had 23 points last night -- but in what is becoming a worrying trend, there are still a lot of unanswered questions in the front court. Andre Drummond got off to a fast start last night before fading into the background (UNC-A's super-small lineup probably didn't help and he only played 22 minutes).
The biggest questions though are going to be about Alex Oriakhi, and how much (if any) playing time he'll get after criticizing Jim Calhoun on twitter. However, at this point less Oriakhi might not be a bad thing for the Huskies, as Justin pointed out last night UConn might be better off giving a good chunk of his minutes to the tandem of Drummond and Tyler Olander.
