Calhoun challenged his team. He made it a focal point in practice. He commanded and demanded and when this uneven second game was over, UConn had a whopping 42-24 rebounding bulge. Tyler Olander had a strong first half and finished with seven rebounds to go with seven points. Alex Oriakhi responded to criticism with nine rebounds and eight points. After a sleepy debut against Columbia, freshman Andre Drummond had five rebounds to go with eight points and three blocked shots in 18 minutes.
