Well that was a nice little break. The Huskies spent the last week blowing through Rutgers and DePaul and looking good doing it. Just a little over a week ago we were worried about Texas and if Kemba Walker and his boys could recover from what looked like the makings of a very harmful skid. Now, we know the answer: they could and did recover. But they did that during the break and now the break is over.
The Huskies host No. 7 Villanova today at Gampel Pavilion for what might be the biggest home game of the year. The Wildcats are 16-1 and have won their last 11 games. UConn has finally gotten above .500 in the Big East, but all three wins have come against bottom feeders, so it would be nice to have a cornerstone conference win.
When these teams have met in the last several years there has been a clear style contrast between Villanova's small, quick lineup and UConn's hulking front court, not so this time around. Alex Oriakhi has been improving, but UConn's game this year is all small all the time so I'll be interested to see how the two squads match up. UConn has already caught one lucky break because an already thing Villanova team will be without sophomore guard Dominic Cheek today so watch for depth to be a factor, especially late.
