The university issued the short-and-bitter announcement this afternoon:
Ater Majok (Sydney, Australia) has withdrawn from the University of Connecticut and is no longer a member of the men's basketball program.
Majok played in 26 games in 2009-10 as a freshman, averaging 2.3 points and 3.0 rebounds.
No reason was given, but the Courant's Mike Anthony chimes in with his best guess:
There are all kinds of rumors flying as to why. Whether there's more to it or not, I'm mostly hearing that Majok, 23, came to realize that his basketball future was not in the United States. He'll probably play pro ball in Australia, maybe pull down $50,000-100,000 a year. That's my guess, anyway.
More to come ...
