UConn Baseball: A Call to Arms

Just because it is unlikely that Aerosmith was thinking of UConn's baseball team when they recorded "Train Kept A Rollin'" doesn't fit this year's squad perfectly. Yesterday the Huskies took out Rhode Island 14-9 to extend their winning streak to 17 games. That was nothing, however, compared to the absolute beat down UConn laid on Holy Cross today. The Huskies scored seven runs in the first inning on their way to an eye-popping 27-10 win over the Crusaders. The win was, of course, the Huskies' 18th straight, and it moved the team to a 30-7 record on the season.

The 30-7 record is great, but the more important stat is UConn's 10-2 record, which is good enough to have the Huskies tied for first in the Big East with Rutgers. Not coincidentally, the hated Scarlet Knights are traveling to Storrs for a three game series starting tomorrow.

Now, as you may have heard, this weekend also happens to be Spring Weekend. I'm fully aware of what that usually means, but I'd like to ask anyone and everyone near Storrs tomorrow to take a break from the drinking (or at least move it over to the baseball field) and cheer on the Huskies. The game is at 3 p.m. and this is likely to be UConn's biggest homestand of the year (or you know, decade). So if you can, go out and support the team. Go Huskies.
