UConn Women's Team Rises To A Watershed Moment : NPR

The Huskies force people –– men and women alike –– to at least think about women's teams. The idea. Little girls see UConn and they realize they don't have to pick up a tennis racket or a pair of figure skates. By being so good, UConn has not just transcended its sport, but it's doing a number on tradition. On sexism, too.

It's difficult to imagine the game and the achievement — should the Huskies win — getting the top billing they deserve on an NFL Sunday. It doesn't help that the game is relegated to ESPNU, which I, for one, find only by mistake when flicking through cable channels.

And so the moment comes. UConn can tie the UCLA men's 88-game winning streak, the longest in NCAA Division I basketball history, with a victory over Ohio State at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.
