Texas Christian University has accepted an invitation to join the Big East conference, according to a report by the New York Daily News. The move gives the Big East a ninth football member and instant national legitimacy. TCU is currently ranked No. 3 in the BCS poll. For their part, the Horned Frogs will get access to the Big East's automatic BCS bid. Their current home, the Mountain West conference, does not have an automatic bid.
Details are scant at the moment, with no time table announced for the move (I'd imagine both sides want it to be as soon as possible), and as far as I can tell no information about how having a 17-team conference for other sport will work.
The move will be announced at a press conference at 1 p.m. today according to the report. More details as they come.
