Big East Football Power Rankings Week 6

Every week the SB Nation Big East Football Blogs cast their vote in an attempt to measure the current state of the Big East. The results are below.

Each week as my fellow bloggers dutifully submit their ballots, I see the same sentiment over and over: trying to rank the teams in this conference is depressing. Once again, West Virginia has a stranglehold on the top of the poll, but after that everything gets very, very ugly. Syracuse is sitting pretty in second place and based on their resume, they certainly deserve to be there. However, I doubt anyone actually believes they are the second best team in the conference. As Meacham pointed out to me, beating USF may have raised up the Orange, but losing to Syracuse meant the Bulls got a one-way ticket to last place.

Speaking of the Bulls, last week everyone was giving On The Banks a hard time for consistently voting USF last. That doesn't seem so silly now.

UConn deservedly slipped five spots into seventh after losing to Rutgers, who got a huge boost, landing in third. Really though, if you're not West Virginia, you're just one of seven incredibly mediocre teams that are probably all evenly matched, and even then, I'm not sure West Virginia is that much better than everyone else. This is going to be a long Big East season and I fully expect it to be filled with stunningly average football. Enjoy.
