Nevertheless, semi-big news out of New York: UConn was picked to finish first in the Big East by the annual coaches' poll.
The Huskies received nine of the 16 first-place votes and finished with a total of 214 points. The best of the rest: Louisville (205 points), Pitt (200) and Notre Dame (195).
Hasheem Thabeet and A.J. Price were selected to the preseason all-conference team, while senior forward Jeff Adrien was named an honorable mention.
Notre Dame's Luke Harangody was chosen as the player of the year. Georgetown's Greg Monroe and Louisville's Samardo Samuels were tabbed the top rookies.
