--John Calipari is a slimy SOB (SHOCKER!)
--Jerome Dyson has been playing video games since the St. John's loss
--"No-Nickname" Smith getting plenty of burn. I'm kind of OK with that

Cal's agent has released a statement saying that Calbertus has agreed to a new four-year extension and will sign it in the next few weeks.

Although details are vague at this point, this deal appears to be quite similar to the one reported in December.

Shortly after the founding of this digest, we began to correspond with the fine folks over at "I Bleed Blue and White," a Villanova blog. Despite beings fans of the cursed Wildcats, the gentlemen over there are an all around good bunch, and so I am happy to note that they are now part of our little corporate SBNation family. They have, however, changed their name (I assume out of admiration for us) to "The Nova Blog." Anyway, civil people that we are, feel free to head over there way and say hello. Also, this means that whatever you do, you should avoid picking 'Nova to go far in March because as we know all too well, the SBNation curse is real.

At some point I will get around to commenting on yesterday's disaster and this season as a whole, but that point is not today, and it probably will not be for a while. In the meantime, I'm going to try and distract myself by learning about, watching and commenting on women's basketball. At least the other UConn basketball team won't break my heart (in theory). I suppose we can start with this video from Jeremy Schapp talking about the comparatively little recognition the women have gotten for their dominance. Deadspin chimed in here, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

I always get confused on UConn's scholarship situation, but I believe this move opens a scholie up for one of the coveted three point guards, now that the Dove has decided to stick around.

Notable in the Zagsblog story: Melvin wanted to be a wing, UConn wanted to make him a power forward. Thus, Melvin will be plying his not-for-profit trade elsewhere next year.

Like many of you, I'm still feeling the pain from yesterday's brutal loss. I have next to no desire to talk about UConn today, so I thought I'd share this instead. As we all know, Hasheem Thabeet, formerly of the Memphis Grizzlies, has been demoted to the NBA's D-League. I never spent a lot of time thinking about the D-League before last week, but since it was brought to my attention, I've found myself sucked into SBNation's D-League blog "Ridiculous Upside" (or, if you prefer Hasheem ThaBlog). The guys over there really know their stuff, plus there is a ton of Thabeet coverage, so go check it out, if only to get your mind off yesterday's debacle.

ESPN's newest power rankings are out, and somehow, someway, UConn climbed right into the "others receiving votes" category thanks to non other than Mr. Doug Gottlieb, who not only voted for UConn, but said they were currently the 24th best team in the country. As an unrepentant homer, I would to offer my complete and unmitigated support of Mr. Gottlieb in his quest to educate the rest of America on UConn. Thanks to Kemba Walker is My Hero for the tip.
