The AAC coaches have spoken, unanimously selecting the UConn men's soccer team as the best team in the conference. The voting went as follows, with coaches not being allowed to vote for their own team:
1. UConn (7)
2. USF (1)
3. Tulsa
4. UCF
5. Temple
6. SMU
7. Memphis
8. Cincinnati
These results come after a season in which the Huskies were the only team to finish conference play undefeated (4-0-4) and advanced to the AAC tournament finals before falling to directional Florida school USF in penalty kicks. This year's UConn team features Preseason All-Conference selections Adria Beso, Allando Matheson, Cyle Larin, and Sergio Campbell, who was selected as the AAC Preseason Defender of the Year.
Campbell, the 6'4 senior center defender for the Huskies has had a phenomenal career in Storrs since transferring from the University of Central Arkansas after his freshman year. In the last two seasons Campbell has started all 45 games for the Huskies, and last year helped the team earn 12 shutouts on his way to earning All-AAC honors. This year Campbell and the Huskies defense will have their work cut out for them in their first year without the number one pick in the MLS Superdraft, and Campbell's teammate on the Jamaican U-20 National team, goalkeeper Andre Blake.
UConn Men's Soccer begins the season on Friday, August 29th at 7:00 pm vs. Coastal Carolina.
