The Open Thread: #18 UConn vs. Indiana, 2k Classic Finals

Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

7:30 on ESPN 2

The stakes could not be higher.

2k Classic history will be written tonight as the 5-0 UConn Huskies face the Indiana Hoosiers, also 5-0, in this early season tournament.

The Hoosiers soundly beat the Huskies last night, the Washington Huskies, that is. Don't let the lack of a number next to their name fool you- this is a good team. They could end up being ranked next time the AP and Coaches Polls come out. They boast a balanced, disciplined attack despite featuring a number of young players after losing Cody Zeller and Victor Oladipo to the NBA Draft. They don't get much production from their bench, but last night against Washington four of their starters had over 16 points. Including 20 and 22 point efforts from Point Guard Yogi Farrel and Freshman forward Troy Williams, respectively. Highly rated Freshman Noah Vonleh has been great so far this year too and should present match-up problems against a vulnerable UConn front court.

UConn, led by emerging forward DeAndre Daniels last night, was able to squeak by BC in a game that shouldn't have been as close as it was. And I'll leave it at that after my emotional outpouring this morning. Kevin Ollie has a very talented team that has at times seemed undisciplined and ineffective, especially in closing out games where they have a lead. This has been an issue most notably against Maryland and BC, but also against lowly BU.

Today the Huskies looks to put last nights disappointing performance behind and make a statement to the nation in the world's most famous arena. Either we come out stale again, or the players heed last nights warning signs and play inspired basketball tonight. I believe in Kevin Ollie enough to think the latter will happen.

LETS GO HUSKIES!
