Quarterback Mike Nebrich to transfer

Stay connected for news and updates

Sophomore quarterback Mike Nebrich will transfer from UConn, the school announced this morning. His destination hasn't been officially announced, but it seems like he might be headed to Fordham to play for former UConn offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead.

Nebrich was one of two quarterbacks listed second on the team's depth chart, listed as an "OR" with senior Johnny McEntee. Junior college transfer Chandler Whitmer is expected to be the team's starter. Nebrich wasn't terribly effective in his limited appearances as a true freshman last year, but UConn fans certainly hoped he could prove himself as a competent backup. Now the Huskies are left with McEntee, who was unimpressive for much of last season.

The transfer also raises questions about incoming freshman Casey Cochran. Cochran is currently out with an injury to his non-throwing hand, was listed fourth on the depth chart, and seemed like a possible candidate for a redshirt. However, with only Whitmer and McEntee in front of him, a red shirt may become less likely.
