With the passing of another July day comes the announcement of two more preseason college football award watch lists. The Mackey Award (given tothe nation's best tight end) and the Rimington (center) award both released their lists today. Unlike yesterday, UConn didn't go two-for-two, but senior tight end Ryan Griffin did get listed for the Mackey.
Griffin had 33 receptions for 499 yards and three touchdowns last year, which are solid numbers considering the quarterback play he was working with. For comparison, Clemson's Dwayne Allen, who won last year, had 50 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns. So Griffin has a way to go, but considering UConn's less-than-stellar receiving corps, Griffin could put up some big numbers, especially if Chandler Whitmer continues to play like he did in the Spring.
No Huskies got any love for the Rimington award, but that's to be expected as UConn looks to replace Moe Petrus on its front line.
