Kevin Duffy reports that, per UConn Blog Facebook follower Alex Oriakhi Sr., Alex Oriakhi plans to transfer. If UConn remains ineligible for the 2013 NCAA tournament, Oriakhi (the team's lone, rising senior) would be eligible to play next season for a new team as the NCAA waives the normal one-year waiting period for "for student-athletes with remaining eligibility concurrent to the postseason ineligibility of their previous institution."
While Duffy's story quotes Oriakhi Sr. exclusively, other beat writers have had difficulty getting confirmation on the news from any other sources. David Borges says Orakhi's mother was surprised by the news, while Ed Daigneault tweeted that UConn officials were unaware as well.
[UPDATE] Duffy's report confirmed via CBS. Oriakhi is transferring.
