The Day - UConn should have cared sooner | News from southeastern Connecticut
UConn's burgeoning persecution complex with the NCAA would have us believe the NCAA is the bad guy here. The NCAA is punishing the kids for someone else's mistake. Then let me suggest this: Let the kids go to the 2013 tournament and suspend Calhoun for its duration.
Jeff Jacobs Column: On UConn's Proposal To NCAA To Penalize Itself - Courant.com
Herbst obviously doesn't want Calhoun to look like he's singularly responsible, that the entire village is culpable. My argument is there is no village without Mayor Calhoun. He is the same man who was in charge when academics fell apart the season the Huskies went to the 2009 Final Four. This is his program. Yes, basketball has improved markedly in the classroom the past year and there have been a number of infrastructure improvements.

I have to give props to Jacobs
He got his digs in on Calhoun, which is to be expected, but his piece was a hell of a lot better than the crap produced by Forde and O’Neil yesterday. He at least go everything out there regarding the retroactive nature of this new rule. And as I said above, I think it would be reasonable to suspend Calhoun for the tourney on top of what has already been proposed.

Question.
I posted this on bigeastcoastbias as well. When the Johnnies were banned from the post season in 2005 or 2006, the Big East banned them from the Big East tourny as well. The conference had a rule that if a team was banned from the NCAA tourny, it could not play in the BET because if it won the conference would be denied an automatic qualifier. Do you guys know if that is still in effect and if UConn is out of next year’s BET as well?
I don't know for sure
My guess is that this would be the case – I don’t see any reason for the Big East to allow a banned UConn team in their tournament. Which would really, really suck, considering it will be the last real-ish Big East tournament.

That's true.
Didn’t even think of that angle. Will be Pitt and Cuse’s last year in.
