David Butler II-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The nation's top recruit has decided to take five official visit and UConn will not be one of them.

Well, it was a nice dream while it lasted. Jabari Parker, the nation's top recruit for 2013 cut his list to five schools today and UConn was not one of them. The Huskies were always a longshot to land Parker, who announced a UConn-less list of ten schools this summer, but decided to take an in-home visit from the Huskies after Kevin Ollie was promoted to head coach in September. It is certainly disappointing for the Huskies to get cut from his list, but even the mild consideration they got from Parker is a good sign for Ollie's ability to attract attention from recruits.

UConn's next recruiting test will come in the form of Xavier Rathan Mayes, who the Huskies have been hotly pursuing. However, in a worrisome move Mayes skipped an official visit to UConn last week, although he says he is still considering playing in Storrs. It goes without saying that if Ollie wants an extended tenure in Storrs landing a big recruit like Mayes would go a long way.
