Photos: Check out UConn's new uniforms
Here are your first photos of the new Nike Hyper Elite Platinum uniforms the UConn men and women will each wear this season. The men will don theirs this Sunday vs. Notre Dame, and the women will wear theirs when they face the Irish on February 27.
It appears for now that the uniforms are scheduled as a one-off design, so for the rest rest of the year the teams will be rocking their boring old Nike Hyper Elite uniforms -- no platinum.
The men and women are two of nine programs chosen to debut the Platinum line. The others are: Arizona, the Baylor women's team, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina and Syracuse. All of those teams have won national titles in Nike gear.

Sadly
I still think of Jerome Dyson when I see the #11 UConn jersey.

To clarify
We are the only school where both programs are going to wear the special uniform?

The real question is...
Is Shabazz still free to match these with highlighter green shoes?
/Does anyone else find these heinously ugly? Or is it just me?
DISLIKE!
I agree. What hideous uniforms! Where’s the central blue/red theme?! Or Blue/White!

It's impressive in a way
The fact that they were able to remove any blue from the uniforms is one thing, but the fact that they were able to remove all white is kind of impressive. It’s interesting though that if you look at the other schools in the link I posted below, most of them have their main color. (Syracuse has Orange, UNC has baby blue, Florida has blue _and_orange, etc.) It’s interesting that they played the red up on UConn’s so much, though from some of the pictures in there it looks like what I thought was black might just be a dark navy.
My guess is
Nike didn’t have a red-dominant team so they just stuck us with that. Or, someone said, “Hey, cool red outline on the ‘U’ there” and built the entire design around it. It’s sharp, no doubt — especially in this Tron promo photo — but it’s also so very, very dumb.

You're right about the navy
Here’s a clearer look:

That's a little better..
Do you have a clearer one of the women’s? Because right now theirs is looking pretty awful; I just noticed something that looks like pink along the sides..

Here's a blurb
Which I assume was written by Nike’s PR people:
The performance push is boosted by employment of bonded seams and laser cut details. Both help to minimize weight while creating a uniform that reads cleanly both on court and on television (after all, the viewer is as important to uniform design as the athlete).
So…the goal was to create something that “reads cleanly on television” and the result is silver on gray?
BRILLIANT!

Ahahah
I’m cracking up right now..
Is it too harsh to say they couldn’t have done a worse job? I’m even trying to picture them NOT on headless bleach white mannequins, but it’s not helping..

Everyone is entitled to an opinion on here..
Sort of..
Just kidding. I think all the red is just throwing me off.. Maybe on the court, on real people, they’ll look different.. And maybe the black really is navy? In both cases, the women really got screwed.. So much red, no navy.

This is fucking ridiculous.
The jersey has nothing to do with UConn and everything to do with attention-seeking Nike looking to make a splash. The fact that they don’t use any of the school colors makes this very clear.

I have no problem with this
Especially as a one off. Sure, more blue would be nice, but I kind of dig the red shoes.
It’s also a nice small side thing to throw at recruits: “Whenever Nike does something new and special, you’ll get to wear it first.”

So I thought UConn got the short end of the stick..
Until I saw this

Not all that awful now that you can see the Navy.. Still don’t like the red socks/shoes though (Sorry Porter)
Either way, the women got screwed
