Heresy: UConn should play some zone D
San Diego State has lost to exactly one team this year: pre-Davies-suspension Brigham Young. As you can probably guess from the title, they were playing zone defense most of the time.
San Diego State's outside shooting is so bad that it's downright Husky-like. They're actually a bit better, and they have one actually good three-point shooter in Chase Tapley, but overall they make only 34% of their threes compared to UConn's 33%.
The zone would make it easier to double down on Kawhi Leonard inside, limit his penetration, and encourage him to take some threes. As he's just 24 out of 82 on the season from behind the arc, every shot we can get him to take from out there is a bonus for us.
I'm not saying we need to (or could) turn into Syracuse, but I hope that Calhoun will at least throw it in the mix and see if it works.
Many of us here mocked Cornell's coach for refusing to zone the Huskies; will the Huskies make the same mistake?

That is heresy
and not just because I believe we have more talent and that when you have more talent you should play man (or the fact that the Huskies barely play and I assume barely practice zone — and look awkward when they do).
If my Huskies are going to lose I want them to do it in the same style that I root for them — loudly and in a hubris-filled manner.
