An Update On Rutgers Schadenfreude: LOL Rutgers
Rutgers Stadium underwent a $100 million renovation project to add more seats. Now, Rutgers gives away 41% of the seats.

Oh Rutgers
So far, Rutgers has stuck with a reshuffled Big East Conference that includes newcomers like Boise State and Central Florida, instead of following long-time rivals Syracuse, West Virginia and Pitt to greener pastures.
Seriously author? Yes. That’s right. Rutgers has nobly decided to stay with the Big East since they clearly had a choice to leave if they wanted.

Hah.
Although, this article is far from being pro-Rutgers. I’d go as far to say the author is unfairly blaming Rutgers for not following the money when in reality they had no chance to do so.

Oh I agree
But it’s in line with the unrealistic view of the level of Rutgers football the administration had at the time of the expansion in regards to their (a) relevancy in Div. 1 football, (b) value as a program, and © size and dedication of their fan base. Basically, this report is highlighting this fact with the poor financial results of the investment they made in the athletic program. While it’s humorous in hindsight (and unfortunate for me since my parents are having to pay for this mistake), I don’t necessarily fault them for taking a risk in trying to expand their brand value. It’s obviously very similar to what we did. I wonder if a similar financial analysis has been done for the investment made in the Rent?

That's a pretty good idea for a story.
I wasn’t under the impression that a good deal of the seats at the Rent are (no pun intended) rented, but now that I think about it, it’d make a lot of sense.
And I feel sorry for Rutgers. Ray Rice came, they became relevant. Ray Rice left, so did the relevance. They’re 8-4 this year (and with a Rice-esque star in Sanu,) yet they haven’t garnered any national exposure. Maybe Schianoball just isn’t conducive to SportsCenter highlight reels.
Meh
They’re 8-4 this year like we were last year. Didn’t really beat anyone worth getting excited about. Especially at home: North Carolina Central, Ohio, Navy and Army was Yankee Stadium. So I guess Navy might be a good draw and Ohio to some extent.

Doing a quick search
I came across the independent audits of the Rent’s financial records for the last three fiscal years. Scroll down to Q-R for the reports.

I don't know much about this sort of thing
But it seems like losing $2.5 million in net assets is probably not good.

Things I learned today:
Even the government says “UCONN.”
Lol
Well that’s unfortunate. Stupid gov’t.

Supposedly they had a 10,000-deep waiting list
Now they don’t.
I can tell you from being down here, there was legit excitement about Rutgers football after 2006. If they had followed that up by going 9-3 or 10-2 in ’07 (they were 7-5 and won the utterly juice-less International Bowl), I think that might have actually given them the momentum to be the draw they think they are.
But yeah, they’re drowning nowadays.

Yep
Being from Jersey as well, half my graduating class it seems went there and I remember how much Facebook was blowing up that year about Rutgers football. Now, there’s one guy who still seems to actually follow them.
One hit wonders are nice, but you have to have consistent success for years to develop a fan base that is willing to support the team even if they suck. Ala Notre Dame, Michigan (until this year), etc.
As a general question, you’re from North Jersey, correct?

Actually, better question
Which part of NJ are you from?

Love that map.
Genius.
I’m from roughly around the confluence of “executives living in mansions,” “lakehouses owned by NYers” and “friendly white families”, although only one of those applies to me.
And yourself?

It's a great map
I’m in “Happy White Families.”
How accurate is North Jersey in the map? South is spot on with one minor gripe for me around Cape May. I don’t really think that is a “Philly Trash” area. Wildwood, definitely.
I’m not as familiar with the North, but it seems pretty accurate.

I'm somewhat hesitant to say Paterson is full of "friendly white families"
(or Dover full of mansions), but North Jersey is pretty accurate. Especially the “Hill People” part. Once you get west of about Mount Olive on Route 80, it’s non-stop Pennsyltucky for about a million miles. I hate it.
