Around SBN: Despite Relocation Drama, Coyotes Overcome Adversity

The UConn/JMU Men's Soccer Thread

You can watch it online Here.  The play by play is a guy calling around getting a seasonal job.  He is dropping "fuck" all over the place.  Hope he gets the job.  In any event the game is on.

1-0 UConn first half.  Beautiful build-up to the goal.  Just well taken.  Things should flow pretty smoothly one would think.  Hopefully our back four plays well on the ball for once.

Three more words makes a post.

nice

The guy closest to the mic now sounds pretty much like me at games, yelling “switch it” and begging them to release the passes quicker.

Good observation by the guy on the video

JMU’s defenders are tall, but they can’t jump.

They're stocky.

Lots of beef to muscle us around, but perhaps a little too much to get off the field well.

Still 1-0

My reporter from the scene says good crowd, kinda quiet.

Halftime show

Is a bunch of WHUS kids (I assume) talking about the Syracuse/Fine allegations. Really dumb stuff.

by fcmonk on Nov 27, 2011 2:01 PM EST reply actions

2nd half

And we’re finally getting the WHUS play-by-play with UConn Legend John Tuite on the mic.

How much time is left?

I’m on a plane, so can’t watch.

By the way, you’re first now for the pick ’em league.

2-0

Mamadou misses the PK, but cleans up the rebound for the easy finish.

3-0

I’m trying to rewind the feed to find out what happened. Cascio the scorer. 25 minutes left. Time to kill off the game.

by fcmonk on Nov 27, 2011 2:39 PM EST reply actions

This is our strength

I know it sounds stupid to say, but this team is lethal when they get an early lead. Their passing and runs are so good that they can carve a team up when they have to open up and attack more.

21 minutes left.

by fcmonk on Nov 27, 2011 2:45 PM EST reply actions

More plaudits

As slowly as they started and inefficient they were last week, they were very prepared for this one. Very sharp for the most part.

Great to hear. Hopefully we don’t get Reided (both of em. I’m an Eagles fan as well)

I would love them to beat the Pats

If only because I would listen to WEEI all day tomorrow to enjoy someone else’s misery.

by fcmonk on Nov 27, 2011 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly would love that

Pats are number one on my listfor most hated NFL teams. Mostly cause of that damn Superbowl my freshman year and then having to deal with going to school in Pats country.

As for the Akron comment in your tweet

I do not want to play Akron. The style they play would give us fits, and really, they’re better than their seeding or lack therof.

Next week

Elite 8 match would be Saturday, not Sunday. I’ve got a gig Saturday so I’m either running like crazy for a gig, or dragging myself out of bed for one. They need to consult me on this shit.

My band

I’m the bassist in an alt-country outfit. We’re playing at the Franco-American club in Bristol that night. Makes for a long day.

And Tuite on the radio made it sound like it wouldn’t be Sunday, but who knows?

Still TBA

Announcement over PA was that they have no clue right now, but that it could indeed be Sunday.

Hathaway's here.

Schmoozed the coaches and staff big-time before game. Also saw him with Coach Morrone.

Looks about 25 pounds heavier, for what it’s worth.

Coach Morrone was there?

Damnit I would have loved to see Joe. He’s the reason I love soccer.

Yeah, still here.

He’s surprisingly quiet as a fan. Hardly even clapping. End of my row.

He earned some peace and quiet in his retirement

Never saw a more fired-up coach. At times, he made Coach Cal look like a hippie.

JUST missed goal #4.

Keeper kicked it straight up on the goal line. Wild save.

by fcmonk on Nov 27, 2011 2:59 PM EST reply actions

True story

I wanted to get married on the pitch of Morrone, in the north goal section. I even sent an e-mail to the athletic department asking about it. They never got back in touch.

Don’t know how that would have worked. I might have switched from “if it makes you happy dear” to “I’m getting married in an inch of mud?”

when they made the “please, no ethnic taunting” announcement before the game.
