West Virginia leaving for Big 12; Big East is all but dead

The Big East as we know it is dead. That is what you should take away from today's news that West Virginia will depart the conference for the Big XII.

This move shouldn't come as a shock, but it's still devastating. The conference is losing its only remaining "legitimate" football team and is now down to five remaining football-playing members with zero appetizing options to replace the departed schools. Sure, there still will (probably) be a conference known as the Big East for years to come, but it won't look anything like what we've grown to love over the past 30 years and it is in very real danger of losing its BCS AQ status.

I don't know what the conference's next move is, but I'm pretty sure I'm just going to play in traffic to pass the time.
