For the first time in six years the UConn women aren't the favorites in the Big East.

It's the first time since 2005-2006 the Huskies do not begin the season at the preseason No. 1 in the conference, and it's just the second time since 1992-93. The Huskies are No. 2.

It was announced today by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association that UConn freshman center Andre Drummond (Middletown, Conn.) has been selected to the Wayman Tisdale Award Preseason Watch List. The Wayman Tisdale Award is presented to the nation's top freshman.

A revived offense led UConn to a 13-12-2 league record last season and the tournament semifinals for the first time since 2007. It’s very early yet, of course, but the same offense and a stingier defense, backed by Bartus, have the Huskies off and running again. Sophomores Brant Harris and Cole Schneider, and junior Sean Ambrosie each have six points to lead the scoring.
