Having said that, if I were Big East commissioner, I'd be begging Boise State to join today, too, because the road through Idaho is the best one at this time to keep the BCS AQ when the deal expires at the end of the 2013 regular season. Heck, I'd be painting my front lawn as blue as Boise's field. For without the AQ, there is no guaranteed money and without the guaranteed money there is no stability, and without stability, you're screwed.

Hathaway has been hired at a "nominal salary," according to a Big East source, and his exact duties are unclear, but the intent of the hire is obviously to maintain his position on the committee, which has been in jeopardy since he was forced into retirement by UConn in August. Hathaway’s retirement was effective on Sept. 15.
