Media pick UConn to finish second in Big East, Lamb makes first team, Drummond is newcomer of the year

Jeremy Lamb has reportedly been named to the All-Big East First Team.

The Big East Basketball Coaches Media (whoops, looks like I misinterpreted Rothstein's tweets, this looks like it is the annual media poll) has reportedly picked UConn to finish second in the league this year, according to a report from MSG and CBS' Jon Rothstein. The Huskies actually got more first place votes than the Orange but were edged in the end. The coaches preseason poll is traditionally released on Big East Basketball Media Day, which is tomorrow.

Additionally the coaches picked sophomore forward Jeremy Lamb as part of the All-Big East First Team (Pitt's Asthon Gibbs is the preseason player of the year). Incoming freshman Andre Drummond was named newcomer of the year, but he also got some votes for the All-Big East First Team despite not playing a second of college ball. Alex Oriakhi also received first team votes.

Here is the poll:

1. Syracuse (6)
2. UConn (8)
3. Louisville (2)
4. Pittsburgh
5. Marquette
6. Cincinnati
7. West Virginia
8. Villanova
9. Notre Dame
10. Georgetown
11. Rutgers
12. St. John's
13. Seton Hall
14. South Florida
15. DePaul
16. Providence

The All-Big East First Team is:

Ashton Gibbs -- Pitt
Jeremy Lamb -- UConn
Kris Joseph -- Syracuse
Tim Abromaitis -- Notre Dame
Darius Johnson-Odom -- Marquette

We'll have more for you after Big East media day tomorrow.
