TheRoundUp 10/12: Basketball season off to a running start
Boston College A.D. Apologizes for Comments About ESPN - NYTimes.com
He acknowledged that he still had "ill feelings" toward UConn in the wake a lawsuit tied to B.C.’s 2003 departure from the Big East. He said it was "inappropriate to express personal feelings that might have been construed as the position of Boston College or the Atlantic Coast Conference."
Jeff Jacobs: BC Athletic Director's Wild Statements Could Help UConn - Courant.com
Neither BC nor UConn holds sway over all of New England. BC and UConn would be much bigger together as on-field rivals than apart as off-field enemies. Is there long-standing animus over the lawsuit Richard Blumenthal filed and over Jim Calhoun's comments that he'd never play BC again? Yes, but c'mon. Even my own arguments with Calhoun don't last seven years. Let's get over it.
UConn Men's Hoop Season Officially Kicks Off With Husky Run - Hartford Courant
The UConn men's basketball team will get off to a running start, as they annually do, with the Husky Run on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The players will begin the 3.4-mile run around the campus at Gampel Pavilion's east entrance. The public is invited to join the run and the winner will get a UConn sweat suit. There will be food and T-shirts for the runners. You can register at 1 p.m. at the starting point.
UConn Ready For First Night - Courant.com
Your long, hot summer is about to end. Soon, the comfort of driving to Storrs in pristine conditions will be replaced with the threat of snow and freezing rain and untenable roads and, of course, you are will be happy as a clam safe from the fishing net. Friday is "First Night" at Gampel. There will be autographs and introductions and three-point shots and slam dunks (not including UConn's admission to the ACC). There will also be a dance contest, smoke machines and all kinds of manufactured gaiety.
Midseason report: Connecticut - Big East Blog - ESPN
UConn has just one win against an FBS opponent this season and blew fourth-quarter leads in three of its losses. McEntee is learning on the job, but teams have game planned to take away the run and that has worked.
The Day - Struggling UConn must eliminate critical mistakes in a hurry | News from southeastern Connecticut
"I was really looking forward and we talked to them at halftime about getting ahead of them in the third quarter and being able to put some points on the board and force them to be a little more careful and execute," Pasqualoni said. "To come back on the next series, now it's 14 quick points and we were never able to recover from that 14-point swing."
UConn Huskies kicker Dave Teggart has knack for winning field goals against USF Bulls - St. Petersburg Times
As a football program, USF has been fortunate to generally dodge the most painful of losses. In their 15 seasons, the Bulls have just four games in which an opponent has kicked a winning field goal in the final minute. Connecticut kicker Dave Teggart has done just that in each of the past two seasons, the only Bulls opponent to do so since 2003. USF revisits the site of that first heartbreaker Saturday at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.

Funny quote from Calhoun about the shortcuts in the course
“Khalid El-Amin had his own unique method. I think there was a bus going around campus that Khalid took, and then got dropped off here at the front.”
"The worst thing you can do, at least this is what my friends tell me, is to come after me," Calhoun said. "I'm usually better at coming out of the corner than I am up on the pedestal. I haven't been on many pedestals, by the way. I'm a natural underdog, I guess -- sometimes for no apparent reason. And if I can't be the underdog, I'll make myself the underdog, somehow or other."

Sounds about right
If I recall correctly, Hilton Armstrong (and some others) had a car waiting for him his senior year just out of sight of Gampel. Took a little joy ride, then got dropped off back on the route just in time to finish respectably.
