Big East Football Power Rankings Week 2

Once again, SB Nation's Big East bloggers have joined forces to bring you the weekly Big East power rankings. Much like last week, West Virginia and Pittsburgh held on tightly to the top two spots while Louisville provided a strong and sturdy anchor, collecting every last-place vote. However, the middle of the league was much more contentious. UConn came in as high as No. 2 (in what I assume is a well-placed hate vote from The Smoking Musket, knocking Pittsburgh down to No. 3) and as low as No. 5. Rutgers came in as high as No. 3 and as low as No. 6 and USF and Cincinnati were all over the place as well.

1. West Virginia (5): 47 points -- @ Marshall W 23-21 (OT)  -- Last Week:1

2. Pittsburgh: (1) 42 points -- vs. New Hampshire W 38-16 -- Last Week: 2

3. UConn: 32 points -- vs. Texas Southern W 62-3 -- Last Week: 7

4. Rutgers: 28 points -- @ FIU W 19-14 -- Last Week: 4

5. Cincinnati: 23 points -- vs. Indiana St. W 40-7 -- Last Week: T-5

6. USF: 22 points -- @ Florida L 38-14 -- Last Week: 3

7. Syracuse: 18 points -- @ Washington L 41-20 -- Last Week T-5

8. Louisville: 6 points -- vs. E. Kentucky W 23-13 -- Last Week: 8

So what does it all mean? I think it means the Big East sucks. A lot. The ballot from On The Banks came with this telling footnote:

We all suck for the most part. Every team has at least one glaring, fatal flaw. If not many.

Rutgers and West Virginia are the only undefeated teams left in the conference, but Marshall was this close to holding off WVU and Rutgers' wins haven't exactly been anything to write home about. Tellingly, Kevin Meacham's first suggestion for TheUConnBlog's ballot looked like this:

1. West Virginia
2. Pittsburgh
8. (tie) UConn
8. (tie) South Florida
8. (tie) Rutgers
8. (tie) Cincinnati
8. (tie) Syracuse
8. (tie) Louisville

So yeah, it is rough out there so far.
