Lloyd to redshirt, miss 2010 season
A knee injury suffered late last season will force senior-to-be Greg Lloyd to redshirt and sit out the entire 2010 season, Randy Edsall confirmed to local reporters Thursday night.
Lloyd, who missed the team's final two games last season and all of spring practice because of a torn ACL and MCL suffered in a Nov. 28 victory over Syracuse, will have one year of eligibility left and is expected to play in the 2011 season, in which he will move back to linebacker, Edsall said.
Lloyd, the starting middle linebacker much of the past two seasons, was expected to move to the defensive line this season. However, after sitting out the spring, his playing status for the fall was doubtful, at best.

Well, this is bad news.
Fortunately, the DL is one of the positions where we have some depth. And if Lloyd can get back to what he was last year, that will make graduating Lutrus and Wilson a little bit easier for 2011.
Orange Bowl/dual Final Fours or bust in 2011. We're going all-in.
There's depth at the ends
just not a ton of experience or standouts. But not a huge blow; there seemed only a slim chance he’d play anyway. Better to save him for next season, and move him to his natural position. He seemed like he’d fit well on the line, but there’s no telling how he would have performed, especially since he’s had, I assume, virtually no time to practice at the position.

On one hand
this is depressing news, because it does weaken the D-Line a bit, but I’ll put on my homer hat and ignore of all that, instead focusing on the fact that UConn now has a marginally better chance to go to back-to-back Orange Bowls.
