SNY to broadcast up to 300 hours of UConn sports, including live games
Looks like we won't have to wait for tomorrow, as The Courant's Desmond Conner is reporting that, according to sources, SNY will broadcast upwards of 300 hours of UConn sports-related material (I presume over a calender year; it's unclear, as of now, from the report).
Not only will the New York-based sports cable network show live men's basketball and football games -- taking over MyTV9's role of showing live games not picked up by ESPN or another network -- but it appears as though there will be other programs on the network as well, per Conner.
Which means, as a Cox subscriber, I'll be getting to know my friendly neighborhood bartender quite well this upcoming college sports season.

Question
This wasn’t addressed in Conner’s post.
Is Connecticut paying SNY to broadcast Huskies games or is SNY paying Connecticut? I’m not muckracking or anything (I’ll leave that to fellow alumni), I’m just curious.
I’m almost positive that Rutgers shelled out for its “partnership” and I wouldn’t be surprised if Syracuse did the same (I know the Orange ponied up to have games broadcast on ESPN1050). That’d be a hell of a question for Conner to find out (or for someone to pose to him).
They are paying UConn,
according to The Courant, and the money is being funneled back into the conference.
SNY will not directly pay UConn. TV rights money goes to the Big East, where it will then go into a pool generated by all 16 conference schools through regional broadcasts. That money gets distributed evenly — the same way the league divides football bowl game payouts.
Nothing about how much they’re paying, though, which would be a really good thing for someone to find out.

This is huge
Here’s the full press release from SNY and it’s a lot better than what Rutgers & Syracuse have had: http://web.sny.tv/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100804&content_id=13028970&vkey=2
They’re also creating a UConn section on their website and proclaiming themselves on the site as “the home” of UConn sports. This is huge.
And good news for Comcast subscribers
From the last paragraph of the SNY release:
“In addition, Comcast plans to expand SNY carriage for its customers throughout the Nutmeg State, launching it before the first UConn football game in areas of the state serviced by Comcast where SNY hasn’t before been available, including the Middletown, Clinton, Groton, Norwich, Old Lyme and Vernon areas.”
I would imagine Cox has to put SNY on now. At least with ESPNU they could say its only a couple games, but it looks like SNY is going all out to get Connecticut.
