UConn's Maya Moore who was named the co-winner of the Honda-Broderick Cup. The award is given each year to the top athlete in women's college sports.

Maya Moore was named the co-winner of the Honda-Broderick Cup earlier today in Los Angeles. The annual award is given to recognize the top female college athlete in the nation. Moore split the award with Megan Hodge, who plays volleyball for Penn St.

Moore is the third Husky to win the award. Rebecca Lobo won it in 1995 and Jennifer Rizzotti won in 1996.

As a junior last year, Moore averaged 18.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. It is certainly an impressive achievement, though I have to wonder how Moore beat out senior teammate Tina Charles who won the Naismith trophy as the nation's top college basketball player and was named the Big East player of the year.
