I always get confused on UConn's scholarship situation, but I believe this move opens a scholie up for one of the coveted three point guards, now that the Dove has decided to stick around.

Notable in the Zagsblog story: Melvin wanted to be a wing, UConn wanted to make him a power forward. Thus, Melvin will be plying his not-for-profit trade elsewhere next year.

Scholie situation next year

Seniors- Donnell Beverly, Jonathan Mandeldove
Juniors- Kemba Walker, Charles Okwandu
Sophomores- Ater Majok, Alex Oriakhi, Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, Jamaal Trice, Darius Smith
Freshmen- Roscoe Smith, Jeremy Lamb, Michael Bradley

This is just off the top of my head. Am I missing anyone? Because that’s 12 and, thus, there will is room for one more superawesome rocket scientist from, say, Florida.

Orange Bowl/dual Final Fours or bust in 2011. We're going all-in.

Cleveland Melvin doesnt care what position he plays.

The Dove is what screwed this whole thing up. Cal needs a free schollie for one of the big 3. It was probably down to trading Cleveland or Trice (since the Dove, thankfully, can’t take a hint), and Cal went with Cleveland.

Too bad; we hardly knew ye, Steamer.

Fold the football program, and deposit monies previously budgeted for said program into a savings account in Coach Calbertus Magnus's name.

Is it illegal to revoke the Dove's scholarship?

Calhoun clearly knows that the Dove is useless by now, why not just cut their losses and send the Dove packing?

You underestimate the Dove...

Any other man, not so strong, would have left by now. But the Dove’s incredible, unbelievable, ridiculous, makes-you-think-deeply-about-you-own-soul shamelessness has allowed him to dismiss all of Cal’s attempts to have him waive his no-trade clause.

Beverly...

Can’t we just make him a walk on? That’s how he plays anyways…

4 PGs have UCONN top 5...

If we miss on all of them, next year will be rough. Obviously I want Knight, but I’ll take any of them (Lamb, Joseph, Selby, Knight)

That would be

the biggest kick in the El-Amin stomach. But I’m kind of expecting that to happen considering the way things are going and the fact that Cal’s recent hiatus may have scared some off.
