Oh well...

As a senior at Uconn, it would’ve been nice to make the tournament.

But the last 11 years have been amazing. We can’t always expect an elite team. We still have a chance to make the tournament, and considering all that has happened this year, it’s tough to complain. We’ve been spoiled. As a Buffalo Bills fan, I have to say, being a Uconn BBall fan is a luxury.

Damn Seniors

I graduated in 2006. Back in my day, we were DOMINANT. SURE! We lost to G***e M***n, but before that we went to final fours and BY GOD WE WON WHEN WE GOT THERE.

Now we have no more campouts for tickets, pussy kids from jersey (sorry Meach) who scalp their tickets to real fans, students who boo the team.

Flush them out. All of them. Dyson, Sticks, Gavin- and all the students. We need a fresh start.

It was fun...

barreling through freshman/girls to get tickets. fucking wristbands.

Oh, come on. Jersey kids aren't the only ones scalping tickets.

I remain convinced that we will be 200% better off next year, with Kemba as the unquestioned alpha dog, with no shooting guard desperately trying to hang on to that label, some hungry young kids and, hey, maybe one of our post players will develop an offensive move this summer.

Also, I find it weird that we both were at UConn at the same time. I feel like everyone who was at UConn before April 2006 or so was from an entirely different era.

Whoa, whoa, whoa

Let’s not turn against each other now. We’re all we have left now in this, our darkest hour.

Can’t we all agree that some significant percentage of college kids are at least kind of scummy?

Yeah

The pre-2006 world was different.

We expected to beat everyone on the road, and nearly did.
We expected to be ranked and we were.
We expected to play in the Big East Tournament Final, and we did.
We expected to win a National Title, and we did that too.

Shit.

Reading this makes me get all teared up…

Normally I'd say "THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEAN" really indignantly

But I think that actually IS what I meant, deep down.

Other than last year, when we finished one game back of Louisville, we haven’t come close to a Big East title (regular season or otherwise) since we tied with Villanova in 2006. That’s kind of tough to believe after the sustained success of 1994-2006.

Agree that next year will be better

The only team Dyson could make it on is one of those And 1 mixtape tours. And even then, Hot Sauce would call him a ball hog.

There’s a chance UConn is worse next year, but I’m officially a believer in next year being better, just because they’ll play better as a team. Although, all of that youth is incredibly scary.

Bills Fans?

I can’t believe there are Bills fans here…I’m in the same boat.

Anyways, I haven’t disliked a team this much in a long time, and at the start of the year I thought they were going to be really good. Robinson was great at the endo f the year last year, I’ve loved Dyson’s game as a slasher and defender, but I think as a go to guy he doesn’t have it, and of course Majok has been disappointing. Let’s get next year started already…I still hope they make the tourney, but I don’t hold out much hope of them playing great.

I agree with just about everything in this post.

But I really just want to respond to note that our commenters have the best names on SBNation.

Only name that can top this one

Is “Charlie V’s eyebrows.” But that’s an urban legend to begin with.

In other news, I blame Villanova. I was all set to give up on this season, and they go and make me think UConn is halfway decent again.

I blame Donyell Marshall

How else could a kid from Buffalo start liking a relatively no-named basketball program, at the height of Duke’s prominence?

Regarding my name, I usually try to think of clever names, but I usually end up petering out. When I saw Mrs. Jerome Dyson and the funny posts, I had to come up with something. El-Amin was one of my favorites b/c of his, well, plumpness/clutchness.

Buffalo Bracket

I know it won’t happen but I’d love UCONN to catch a 12 seed in the Buffalo bracket – Cuse will be the 1 seed here, and I have tix to the tourney – I watched Okafor and Gordon start their run here in Buffalo

Has anyone else noticed...

That the vast majority of students who are selling their tickets are freshman? The ticket system is a sham

by Ticallion on Mar 4, 2010 10:11 AM EST reply actions

I just don't see how

UConn makes the tournament. I know you need to hold out hope, but they need to win the BE Tournament to get in. The Huskies have 7 conference wins and 10 losses. The last two years BE teams with 10 conference WINS have been left out of the tournament. Good luck in the NIT.

by jimmiejones on Mar 4, 2010 10:19 AM EST reply actions

There's no objective standard

I would think a Syracuse fan would be exceptionally familiar with the workings of the NIT selection committee…

It doesn’t matter what happened last year or two years ago. This year, the bubble is awful. UConn’s SOS and RPI are going to be good enough that 19-14 probably puts them on the very, very edge of said bubble, and 20-14 (that would be a win vs. USF, a win vs. random bottom-4 Big East team, win vs. 5th-8th-place Big East team) makes them a lock.

Now, will any of this actually happen? Hell no. I would put down lots of money on USF beating UConn by 10 after last night’s sad-sack performance.

But if you don’t SEE how it could, then you’re either blind or trolling.
