TheOpenThread: UConn vs. DePaul

DePaul Blue Demons at Connecticut Huskies, Feb 6, 2010 8:00 PM EST

This will be an interesting test of exactly how hardcore the folks are on this blog. At 8:00 on a Saturday night, will anyone be around to make snarky comments as 13th-place UConn battles 16th-place DePaul at Gampel Pavilion? Will any of the three writers of this here blog be around? (I will!) Will UConn show up? Will Jim Calhoun casually meander out on the court midway through the first half, as if nothing ever happened? Will this photo of Jerry Wainwright at his firing press conference break your heart? Did you remember that DePaul is a Big East team? Did you realize that UConn would be the away team in the pre-preliminary round of the Big East tournament if the season ended today?

So many questions. We'll try to answer as many of them as possible in TheOpenThread tonight. Join us.

(And also, if you haven't had a chance to read it (because it got buried in Signing Day coverage), please check out my SHOCKING expose of UConn's problems this season. I say "shocking" because I can't believe I made that many graphs, either. But basically, if you think UConn's main problem is anything other than poor rebounding, then you need to click that link and have some knowledge dropped on ya.)

Texas

is just making that win less and less important. Down six to Oklahoma with three minutes left.

Also, this game reminded me that the Sooners could have had both Scottie Reynolds and Damion James last year, to go along with the bros. Griffin, Willie Warren and that 5-foot guy with a mohawk. Unreal team, that would have been.

SNY is showing some sports trivia show

In lieu of the snowed-out Pitt-Seton Hall game. The lady asking the questions is phenomenal, in the shallowest sense. That’s all.

So, how about that women's basketball team?

one might call them the cream of the crop. I just call them the team Pat Summitt wishes she had.

Score predictions?

10 minutes til game time…

I say UConn 73, DePaul 60, but it’ll basically be a repeat of every annoying game against a mid-major that UConn played in November and December.

it wouldn’t be a 2009-10 UConn game if it wasnt annoying. I’ll go UConn 68, DePaul 60, with 17 UConn turnovers

by The Columnist on Feb 6, 2010 7:54 PM EST up reply actions

it’s sad that I just went to look up UConn’s assist-to-TO ratio and I started scrolling from the bottom of the list because I figured I’d find them quicker in that direction.

Amazingly I was wrong, as they have 333 ast to 322 TOs (1.03) which puts them 101 in the country. But it’s still 14.6 TOs/game, which is enraging.

L, 65-52 at Pittsburgh
L, 99-72 at Villanova
L, 67-47 at St. John’s
L, 87-77 at Notre Dame
L, 80-69 at Marquette

And DePaul has a chance to tie UConn with 9:00 left. UConn sucks.

then no

not the worst ever.

06 alone had the loss to Cuse in the Big East tourney, and then the tourney
05 loss to NC State was pretty bad

I think thats your top 4

by The Columnist on Feb 6, 2010 9:48 PM EST reply actions

No, that's not what I'm talking about

Those were stomach-punch losses to good teams.

This would be a loss to a 1-9 DePaul team that might be the least talented team on UConn’s schedule, i.e. the worst team UConn’s ever lost to in the Calhoun era.
