Countdown: 21

ricky mooreIn order to start the transition to basketball season, we’ll be counting down the days until the first game — in classic TheUConnBlog fashion (i.e. inconsistently) – and honoring our forefathers along the way. You can check out all of the entries here.

Welcome back to the Internet's most popular UConn basketball countdown. Our number for today is 21 and who better to represent it then the combination of Ricky Moore and Stanley Robinson.

Star-divide

Moore of course was a central component of the 1999 team and has a lifetime pass with me because of every thing he does after the 1:50 mark in this video (which, frustratingly, cannot be embedded). Alternatively check out the (embeddable!) video below, which gets the same point across.

Stanley Robinson may not have brought a national title to Storrs (yet), but I love him all the same. I have had an unnatural affection for Sticks from the first day he donned a Husky uniform. Much like Rudy Gay, Robinson has an absurd amount of physical talent but just cannot seem to find a consistent flow (If you wanted to be a cynic like Meacham you could just say that "Stanley Robinson is Rudy Gay without the drive").

He's had some rough patches and had to take a very public semester away from the team last year, but I still hold out hope that this will be the year it will all come together for him. He was crucial for UConn down the stretch last year and stepped up when Dyson went down, so here's hoping he can keep that up and take his game to the next level.
